Baking Day With Grandma

My grandma had a recipe for Christmas mice made from peanut butter cookies, which I thought was so cute. She had already made the dough when I came over, so I just helped form the cookies. Making the noses gave us endless trouble. The M&Ms we had were too big, and the sugar candy we tried to replace them with melted in the oven, making the mice look like they had nosebleeds.

Grandma saved what cookies she could, and I suggested we make bear-shaped cookies for the rest of the dough (another thing I had seen on Pinterest).

The bears almost gave us no issues, but we left them in the oven just a little too long. Fortunately, they still tasted good. I think the browner color made them look more bear-like.

I made a little heart as well but that one was tragically lost to burning.

What did go well for us was this toffee-ish treat we made (I say we, but all I did was spread on the caramel and chocolate). It looked so nice!

Grandma delivered plates of assorted sweets to friends and family as little Christmas gifts, and I got a plate to share with my mom. It looked so cheerful!

Everything tasted great, but my favorite by far was the toffee. It was a really nice mix of sweet and salty, chewy and crunchy.
